What is the TIP?
Federal statutes require Metropolitan Planning Organizations produce
a five year program of projects. The program of projects is known
as the Transportation Improvement Program (T.I.P.).
The TIP is a central program management tool for structuring metropolitan
transportation programs.
Each of the projects proposed for implementation in this TIP are
consistent with the Yuma Metropolitan Planning long range Regional
Transportation Plan. The Program was updated in accordance with
jointly issued Federal Highway Administration/Federal Transit Administration
"Metropolitan Planning" regulations as published in the Federal
Register, Vol. 58, No. 207, October 28, 1993. In an attempt to create
a fully coordinated countywide transportation improvement program,
the intent has been to include all proposed significant transportation
improvements in the study area.
The intent of this TIP is to include all transportation projects
being implemented in Yuma County, regardless of funding source,
so that officials and citizens can, in one document, review all
major planned/proposed transportation improvements for the coming
year. In addition, each jurisdiction has on-going maintenance programs
that may be included for possible local funding.
What years do the TIP represent?
The TIP is a five year program and is updated annually.
What projects are included in the TIP?
Those approved by the Arizona State Transportation Board on state
routes.
Those proposed for funding under the Federal Surface Transportation
Program, Bridge, or Hazard Elimination System (Safety) programs.
How is the TIP funded?
Projects are funded with federal, state, and local funds.
Project priorities are indicated by the year the project is programmed.
For Federally funded projects, the year programmed, as indicated
in the TIP, refers to the Federal fiscal year ending September 30th.
What is the approval process?
The TIP must be approved by the YMPO Executive Boardand the Governor
of Arizona. Following such approvals, the TIP shall be included
in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) prepared
by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
